Presentation of the new era in BASF for cotton crop

  • The segments of crop protection and seeds of Agricultural Solutions BASF have jointly presented the new era of the company regarding cotton crop.

On Wednesday, February 13th, was held in a full hall in Met Hotel at Thessaloniki, an event named: “BASF is value for cotton”. The representatives of BASF Hellas presented the new era of the company in the cultivation of cotton and had the opportunity to talk about the New structure, the New integrated solutions and the New common era that begins.

“BASF, with the recent acquisition of a wide range of activities by Bayer, welcomed to its work force a very experienced team of employees in the seed sector”, said Mr. Spyros Georgiou, Business Manager of BASF Hellas S.A., and added to the strong portfolio of crop protection products department, an excellent range of seed products, under the names of FiberMax® & Stoneville®.

With the new set up, BASF takes on cotton crop and assumes an even more important and coordinating role for the cotton market. The combination of crop protection products and seed products make BASF Hellas the leader of cotton.

Thanasis Tsoutsas, Director of the Seed Department of BASF Hellas S.A. added: “BASF is value for cotton! It is value because we believe that cotton cultivation has many prospects and great future in Greece, and because we approach cultivation holistically, providing solutions to the cotton growers from the beginning to the end of cultivation. It is essential to point out that Greece is ranked among the 10 most important countries in the world regarding the export of cotton and is also the number one country in Europe regarding the conventional varieties of high – quality cotton that are sought after in foreign markets. Let us also not forget that cotton is in the top 10 most exportable products of Greece, which demonstrates the importance of the crop for the national economy”.

Sofia Zioga, Head of Quality, Registration & Marketing of BASF Hellas S.A., spoke to us about the Cotton Production program with Sustainable Agricultural Practices, under the name Certified Sustainable FiberMax® – CSF: “The program will be in its fifth year of implementation this year, having a very successful progression in the last years. CSF promotes the production of quality cotton in a sustainable way, which meets the contemporary requirements of consumers, while offering added value to all the people involved in the cotton value chain”.
